The Gaming Floor
We operate 24 hours a day at 346 Victoria Street, right in Hamilton’s CBD. The casino is inside the old Chief Post Office building, sitting beside the Waikato River, so the feel of the place is a bit different to a modern glass box casino. Inside that heritage shell you will find over 300 gaming machines on the main floor, 23 table game positions, and a mix of electronic terminals and live dealers that covers most of what regulars expect in a New Zealand casino.
Entry into any gaming area is restricted to guests who are 20 or older. That R20 age rule comes from New Zealand law and we apply it consistently at all of our casino entrances. We are open every day of the year except Christmas Day, Good Friday, and Anzac Day before 1 p.m., which are the three statutory exceptions we must follow.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Gaming Machines | Over 300 on the main floor |
| Table Games | 23 positions |
| Minimum Entry Age | 20 years (R20) |
| Casino Hours | 24 hours, statutory holiday exceptions apply |
| Loyalty Card | SHOW by SkyCity / Premier Rewards |
If you prefer to play on a carded basis, you will need a SHOW by SkyCity or Premier Rewards card. That card is used across all SkyCity casinos in New Zealand, so the same account and details follow you whether you are here in Hamilton or visiting another property in the group.
Getting Here and Getting Started
Our carpark entrance is off Alma Street, connecting back to Victoria Street. There are around 340 spaces and the facility runs 24 hours, similar to the casino. For guests driving in from outside Hamilton, parking on-site tends to be the simplest approach, as CBD street parking can change a lot with the time of day and local events.
When you arrive at the casino entrance, have valid photo ID ready so we can confirm your age. Once that is done, getting set up is straightforward. The gaming machines and table games are both on the main floor, and our floor staff are visible if you need help exchanging cash, understanding a rule or finding a particular game type.
One point that is worth knowing before you walk in. Under New Zealand’s Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009, our team may need to ask for extra identification or information about where your funds come from. This is not optional or personal - it is a legal requirement that applies at all SkyCity properties in New Zealand. Continued play can depend on completing those checks properly.
If you want to confirm opening conditions or check on a specific game before visiting, call us on +64 7 834 4900 and our team can talk you through what is currently available.
A simple way to think about accessing the gaming floor:
- Head to 346 Victoria Street, Hamilton Central, Hamilton 3204.
- If you are driving, enter the carpark via Alma Street, using one of the 340 spaces available.
- At the casino entrance, present valid photo ID so we can verify that you are at least 20.
- Have your SHOW by SkyCity or Premier Rewards card with you if you plan to use carded play.
- Choose the gaming machine or table games area that suits how you like to play.
- For table games, approach the table and either buy in directly or visit the cashier to exchange cash for chips.
- If anything is unclear, speak with floor staff or our Host Responsibility team about play limits, AML checks or general questions.
Dining, Bars and the Rest of It
The casino floor is only one part of the overall venue. Inside the complex there are eight bars and restaurants operating, with different food and drink styles depending on what you feel like on the day. EATBurger, The Local Taphouse and Bowl and Social are the main named outlets, each running as its own hospitality concept inside the same building.
Bowl and Social is our in-house bowling alley. It works for casual visits as well as pre-booked groups, and it does not carry the R20 age restriction that applies at the main casino entrances. The same approach applies to the X-Golf simulator, which offers indoor virtual golf and is open to guests regardless of whether they are using the gaming floor. These non-gaming spaces sit alongside the casino but operate separately from it.
| Facility | Type |
|---|---|
| EATBurger | Dining |
| The Local Taphouse | Bar |
| Bowl and Social | Bowling alley |
| X-Golf Simulator | Indoor virtual golf |
| Casino Floor | Gaming machines and table games |
Regional tourism bodies in the Waikato have us listed as one of the key nightlife and entertainment venues in Hamilton’s CBD. That reflects how people actually use the place: some arrive for dining, some for bowling or golf simulation, others for live entertainment, with or without gaming. Entry to the overall venue is free, and you only need to meet the R20 rules and ID checks if you are heading into the casino floor.

Gaming Floor Facts and Figures
Gaming Floor Facts and Figures
Casino SkyCity Hamilton runs more than 300 gaming machines alongside 23 table game positions on its main floor. The venue operates around the clock every day of the year, with three statutory exceptions: Christmas Day, Good Friday, and Anzac Day before 1 p.m.
Entry to the casino gaming areas requires guests to be 20 years of age or older, in line with New Zealand law. For carded play, a SHOW by SkyCity or Premier Rewards card is needed, and the same account works across all SkyCity properties in New Zealand.
Beyond the gaming floor, the complex includes around eight bars and restaurants, a bowling alley under the Bowl and Social brand, and an X-Golf simulator. The on-site carpark off Alma Street holds approximately 340 spaces and is open 24 hours a day.
SkyCity Hamilton Within the Group
SkyCity Hamilton operates as part of SkyCity Entertainment Group Limited, which is headquartered in Auckland. Within New Zealand, the group currently includes SkyCity Auckland, SkyCity Queenstown and SkyCity Wharf Casino in Queenstown, alongside our Hamilton property. SkyCity Adelaide in South Australia is the group’s casino operation in Australia.
Each of these properties runs under local licensing conditions. In New Zealand, casino activity is regulated nationally by the Department of Internal Affairs, and SkyCity Hamilton holds a land-based casino licence that fits within New Zealand gambling law. The wider SkyCity compliance framework - including AML/CFT requirements, host responsibility policies and age verification standards - is applied in a consistent way across all New Zealand venues.
Hamilton has a slightly different role and feel compared with the other SkyCity sites. Our focus is the Waikato region, and the riverside CBD setting, plus the heritage building, gives us a physical character that does not match the much larger Auckland complex. If you were actually aiming for SkyCity Auckland or one of the Queenstown venues, those operate as separate sites with their own contact details, facilities and directions, so it is worth checking you have the right one before you travel.
Responsible Gambling
Host responsibility sits inside how we operate day to day. It is not a bolt-on programme. Our staff are trained to keep an eye on play, to intervene when something looks off, and to request identification or pause play when required under our policies or the law. If you are worried about your own gambling, or about someone you have come in with, the easiest place to start is a direct conversation with any member of our casino floor team.
For support outside the venue, the Gambling Helpline is available on 0800 654 655 and offers confidential help. Carded players using SHOW by SkyCity or Premier Rewards can also access their own play history, which can be useful if you are trying to understand patterns in how often or how much you play.
If you want to use our responsible gambling support, you can move through it in stages:
- Speak with any floor staff member if you feel you need a pause, a time-out, or just a quick reset.
- Ask to talk with the Host Responsibility team on-site if you want a more structured look at play limits, self-exclusion or other formal tools.
- Call the Gambling Helpline on 0800 654 655 if you prefer to talk to someone outside the casino environment.
- Log into your SHOW by SkyCity or Premier Rewards account and review your play history if you use carded play.
- Pick up printed responsible gambling information at reception or the cashier desk if you want something to read later.
New Zealand law requires us to collect and check identity information in some situations, especially where AML/CFT rules come into play. In those cases, players may be asked for documents that show their source of income or wealth. Following those requests is a legal condition of being able to keep playing at the venue, and our team will explain what is needed if it applies to you.
